Arisia

Why was Arisia not as great as it usually is?

Now mind you, I really really enjoyed getting the extra night in. That was really cool. I'm always a "last to leave the party" type of person anyway.

Was it the choices of activities I made, doing Rocky Horror and a Babylon 5 game that dragged a little?

Was it the drum circle, often a highlight for me, was run by chanting elitists who were too concerned with showing off their own skill rather than Jim, who had run an awesome, slow, base-backboned driving rythm that often took on it's own life and seemed to evolve and flow with energy, not someone trying to show off. I missed Jim doing it. :-(

Was it the lack of "out-of-towners" who usually fly or drive in from other states, bringing an intense energy to the whole weekend, one that can't be made by all of us who see each other regularly anyway.

Was it the lack of any greatly intrigueing panels?

Mind you, I enjoyed Arisia. I liked it. I really enjoyed watching the Patriots with so many geeks. Heck, I loved that part. I really liked seeing so many cool and fun people that I see so regularly. I enjoyed playing C&K, I enjoyed the "flicky game" late Sunday night. It just wasn't the "oh my God, I'm home... I live here and the rest of my life is just time between Arisia's" sort of weekend.

I liked it. I enjoyed it. But it wasn't what it usually is.

Oh well.

Maybe next year...
