Hip update

Great news on the hip.

There is no tear in the labrum. The ligaments look good.

Essentially, I have a deformity in each hip which will cause impingement and occasionally catch a ligament causing a snap followed by temporary pain. My running ability will always be a little off and I will have to work harder to achieve the same speed others can with less effort... but this is nothing new, just something I now know.

The catching of the ligament has not caused any damage so there's nothing to worry about there.

No need for surgery unless something changes.

My flexibility will never be great but as long as I keep active and keep stretching, I should be ok.

Found out a week ago.

I was selected to work the post season this year in high school football.

I will be officiating the Tuesday after Thanksgiving at one of the playoff games.

For the two leagues I work, 100 different referees worked them with 60-70 being "primary" officials who work the league regularly. From that, only six of us were chosen.

I was floored and surprised. I feel honored and wish I could run back and thank the coaches and head referees who put in good words for me.

Being my first time selected, I am only eligible to work a first round game. (On your second selection, you are eligible for a high school super bowl game in Foxboro.)

Special thanks to R for putting up with all the Saturdays and evenings I am gone in the Fall refereeing.
