Birthday Dinner

Place R wanted to go for dinner does not exist anymore...

sooo....

I need some help/suggestions on a place to take her.

She is looking for a funky, and/or romantic restaurant (ambience is very important) with good food, preferably non asian.

Any thoughts?

If you like quiet and low lit (and Indian food)

Joti Palace in Malden square is nice.

Does Indian count as Asian? If not, the new Indian Place in Davis Square is quite nice. I forget the name, but it's across the street and down a little for the Diesel, and it's not Diva, but the other one.

hm. too bad about the non-asian, or i'd suggest the bitsuteki japanese steak houses. the sort where the servers are in kimonos and the food is cooked on the table in front of you. we used to go every year on my birthday :)

otherwise, Fire and Ice is a funky kinda place. there's one in harvard square. all sorts of selection, you put it together, they cook it for you sort of thing.

ooh, or henrietta's table, also in harvard square. good food, good ambiance. we saw julia child there once.
