We won again.

This was significant in a number of ways. Most importantly, we defeated the team we had lost to in our openning game. Are we getting better? Yes.

In our first game, we gave up 7 goals, Friday we gave up 3, one of them with 1:30 left when the opposing team had put out there top players and were peppering us over and over, desperately trying to close the gap. So a 7-5 loss in game one is countered by a 4-3 win.

My two young defensemen played much more within themselves. I limited them to only 3 rushes in the game, telling them they'd have to pick their spots. They controlled the middle better, cleared the slot better, and got back on defense better, beginning to think defense first. My 4th defenseman, the one who has struggled the most, is almost there. The light has not gone off yet, but she is starting to at least follow the orders/instructions. She held the point when we had the puck and protected the front of our net. Now I just need to get her to never ever pinch (at least not until she's had a year on D).

The game got rough.

The game got *really* chippy. Two of my girls were hit from behind into the boards and one was high-sticked while trying to fake-out their best D. But my girls kept their focus. We took the power-plays, played tough but not dirty, stayed out of the penalty-box, and walked off winners. The other team had 3 amazing players, one's who play at top levels in their "other" teams. They did not take it well when they were losing, but we kept our cool.

Missing one of our goalies, R made 33 saves on 36 shots, 16 of those saves in the 3rd period when the opposing team shortened up their bench.

Nice job all around.

I am very proud of them.

Now we are off to the island tomorrow. Due to finals for the high schoolers this coming week, I'll be missing 6 of my older players. All my D and my goalie will be there since they are all young. We'll see how things go.

I'm looking forward to the trip.

:-)
