For those of you who have been to Vegas, if we go there for our honeymoon next year, what places or shows do we really need to go/see?

Where should we stay?

Where should we eat?

Is this a good idea or a horrilble idea?


We neither drink nor gamble, but we've been told it's got tons of things that we'd like.

If you go to Las Vegas, I strongly recommend that it's as a connection to a different destination, especially since you neither drink nor gamble. Sure, there are poor-quality overpriced shows, strip clubs, and Hoover Dam, but there are a gigazillion better places you could go. Vegas is one of my three least favorite cities in the U.S.

We are potentially going to Vegas for part of our honeymoon. We would go somewhere else as well.

We don't drink or gamble, but really enjoy to immerse ourselves in shows, activities, great food, etc.

There definitely are shows and good eats in Vegas but at QUITE a premium price. I feel like you could see good shows and eat amazing food in a more interesting location which is to say that Vegas doesn't have a "lock" on shows and eats.

I went to Vegas for the first time late last year and I had a blast. I'd definitely recommend it as a destination.

I'd point you in the direction of nmc who often used Las Vegas as his escape from grad school in Utah, but he just graduated and is somewhere between SLC and Portland with all his stuff. If he's not too crazy when he gets to Portland, I can ask him to shoot you a note about inexpensive places to stay, where he liked to eat, and where that great used bookstore he loves is. I'm not sure he'd be great at the show recommendations, but the other stuff he might have good ideas.

There are a bunch of Cirque du Soleil shows there - a new one just opened that used the music of the Beatles. I really liked "O".

If you aren't fans of gambling (and therefore won't be spending all your sunlight wasting away in the casinos), I'd suggest finding a hotel that has a nice pool and spa (if you're into that sort of thing). I stayed at Caesars and liked it a lot, but that was 5.5 years ago and there are a ton of new hotels since then.
