It's a strange little league they've formed. 2 teams to 3... next week up to 4... they hope.
It's only while the Outlaws team is on summer break, but it's turned into a nice little side-bar.
Scored a goal tonight, 2nd in two weeks. Not only is this nice... but as a defense-man, it's *really* nice. I'm not usually a fast player, but once every blue moon, something happens, I get "big eyes" and I just motor. I scrambled up the ice from my own blue-line, picked up the puck at the red-line, then flew by two opponents and drove straight to the net, snapping the puck short-side by the goalie top-shelf.
My teammates were teasing me that "When we see 230 lbs just flying up the ice at 90-miles-per-hour... NO ONE gets in your way!"
I'm having fun.
Funny "speaking voice" moment: The other team's best player managed to get behind me right in front of the net with apx 25 seconds left in the game. As the puck came to him he yelled to his teammate "I got it!" I realized in that split second he was about to score and I needed to stop him. I am told I yelled in reply, "Oh no you DON'T!" as I completely tackled him (should have been a penalty on me). My goalie and the opposing forward were both laughing after the game.
With a tie game 5-5 with 19 seconds left, we had a wonderful play. Face-off in our zone, the center won the puck back to me. I fired it around behind our own net. The left wing picked it up but could only chip it up a few feet by the opposing player. My defensive partner picked up the loose puck and fed it cross-ice to the streaking right-wing who scored the game-winner with 13 seconds left. All 5 players touched the puck to win the game with 13 seconds left. Nice. :-)
I feel I am getting into better shape. It feels good.
I am looking forward to more tennis with R. Hope the weather holds out.
